TPWD is soliciting public comment on its developing revisions to the 2005 Land and Water Resources Conservation and Recreation Plan. This affects protection of inflow and stream/reservoir retention, protection of public access for recreation purposes and numerous other issues that affect every citizen and visitor to our state. Of special importance is its potential effect on paddling access and development of paddle trails, as well as other outdoor recreation activities. A series of faintly promoted public forums is being undertaken to solicit public opinion and discussion about the propsed plan. A meeting was held in Arlington on August 17, that we just learned about 3 days AFTER the fact, and thus had no opportunity for participation. Only 8 citizens were present to hear the presentation and offer comments. The next meeting near the DFW area is on September 3, in Lufkin. All who are interested in hearing about the TPWD plan and/or making their voices heard on this critical issue should plan to attend. Below are links to the plan, as proposed, and a survey that you can complete on-line to give TPWD your opinion about their proposals. The survery will take 20-30 minutes to complete, but this is a VERY IMPORTANT issue that is worth your time and effort. Land and Water Plan On-line Public Comment We MAY have escaped an on-going nightmare on the far Upper Guadalupe River where a rock crushing operation was illegally started. The owner of the quarry died, and his family has withdrawn the application to legalize their operation due to pending lawsuits. It remains to be seen what will become of the desert-like destruction that has occurred, but at least the rock crushers have been silenced for now. There is, however, another rock crusher that threatens a river and the quality of life around it. The Navasota River, near Mexia, is home to a similar operation as that on the Upper Guad with similar problems of air and water quality. Watch for additional information soon. 2nd Annual Polar Paddle Location Changed! Due to high water on the Lower Mountain Fork and Little Rivers our 2nd Annual Polar Paddle Trip has been moved to the San Marcos River. We will base camp at Shady Grove Campground / Spencer Canoes at the intersection of FM 1979 and the river. We will rendezvous at the campground, set up camp, and then decide where we want to paddle. Conditions in Oklahoma and Arkansas are worsening, the water is rising fast and more rainfall is expected today and possibly tomorrow making a trip there risky, at best. TRC XIV Raffle Boat ![]() CONGRATULATIONS to Edward Parker, who was the lucky winner of the Perception kayak in the TRC XIV raffle on Saturday, September 26. Ed was not able to stay for the presentation, so we have no photo of him with the boat. 2009 Most Miles Paddled Award Logs due now! It is time to submit your log for miles paddled in 2009 for the Most Miles Paddled Award, which is given to the male and female paddlers who log the most non-commercial miles during a calendar year. All logs must be submitted by the March meeting, and the awards will be presented at the April meeting. Winners of the 2008 awards are ineligible for the 2009 awards. We need your help! The City of Dallas is trying to force the building of two needless reservoirs in East Texas that threaten to drown the Sulphur River and the Upper Neches River forest land before the US Fish and Wildlife Service can get it designated as a National Wildlife Refuge. Read the article and then contact City Hall to express your displeasure and objections!

WE WANT YOUR HELP! These pages are a free riversport information resource. These are your pages. We need your input here on the bulletin board to keep these pages current and to let others know what is happening on (and to) our rivers in the Southwest. Please share your experiences, your trip reports, new web links, river conditions, etc. If you find any dead or changed links, let us know. What trips are happening? What paddling clinics are planned? Got a boat or some gear for sale? This is the place to let others know about it.
